Public Art is ON in the District

On December 1, in a special collaboration with On—the official public art walks partner of Art Basel Miami Beach—we arranged for 50+ Collector and Patron members to receive free Cloud shoes to kick off Miami Art Week in style. From public works by Los Angeles-based artist April Bey and Miami’s own Elliot and Erick Jiménez, to a special installation by Season One’s Typoe at the Rimowa boutique, we explored the Miami Design District in a walking tour led by Commissioner’s Joanna Davila with Dejha Carrington.

We then linked with artist Thom Wheeler Castillo for a private visit of the Craig Robins collection, whose 2023-2024 rehang titled A Train of Thoughts focuses on figuration and conceptualism. Featuring works by Bisa Butler, Nicole Eisenman, Francisco Goya, and David Hammons, to name a few, we examined questions around the politics of place, memory, and textile, textile, textile. Artist Gonzalo Hernandez went toe to toe with Julian Schnabel, and in a hilarious Where’s Waldo moment, Season Four’s Lisa Leone found herself in JR’s monumental mural The Chronicles of Miami. It was a time.

Overwhelming thanks to On and their wonderful in-store and partnerships teams, and to Karen Grimson, Curator of the Craig Robins Collection and Miami Design District Director of Cultural Programming. Photography by the fantastic Chantal Lawrie, courtesy of Commissioner.
