In the landmark publication, Reflections in Black: A Reframing, Dr. Deborah Willis explores the history and legacy of Black photography through images that reveal how Black photographers have shaped both self-representation and cultural memory from the nineteenth century to the present.
Join Willis, Dejha Carrington, co-founder of Commissioner—the visionary art collecting program drawing from collaborative and diasporic models of support—and Naiomy Guerrero, Museum Specialist of Photography and Film at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, for a conversation about photography as a tool for self-definition, resistance, and creative expression. Together, we'll explore photography’s role in affirming identity, preserving history, and expanding how we understand Black life, culture, and visual storytelling across generations.
