On September 10, we had the honor of sharing our story and dreams at Season Contemporary’s Talks program with a warm and generous audience—many of whom have been part of our journey since we planted our very first seeds in Detroit back in 2022.

We were deeply inspired by panels featuring Detroit-based collectives and organizations, such as rootoftwo, Talking Dolls Studio, PS Detroit, and BULK Space, and artists and curators like Mario Moore, Ricky Weaver, and Taylor Renee Aldridge, among many others. Especially refreshing was the fluidity and ease with which portals and time travel were utilized as tools for strategic planning: “Cultural work is imagination work—it’s about how we imagine further...”

Now, as we launch Season Nine in Miami, we’re carrying the many lessons learned in Detroit, and are feeling more excited than ever to build foundational bridges and connect global community. Next month, we meet up in Venice with members and locals to explore La Biennale di Venezia; and in the coming years, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and beyond.

You can become a Commissioner by supporting our efforts, sharing our newsletter, and keeping an eye out for our pop-up commissions across geographies—a new program we’re calling interCommissioner.

At its core, this is a group art project. Commissioner is a social practice that we create together, wherever we are.

A special thank you to our dear friend and partner Amani Olu of Season Contemporary and Taylor Aldridge of Modern Ancient Brown for the hospitality and the vision-dreaming. Deepest gratitude to Emilia Howard, who traveled in support of our Detroit adventures. And thank you to all the artists and art workers we had wonderful conversations with along the way
