World Building with Edouard Duval-Carrié

Edouard Duval-Carrié is the fourth and final commissioned artist of Season Seven.

Born and raised in Haiti and now based in Miami, Edouard creates mixed media works and installations that explore history, identity, migration, and spirituality. His art invites viewers to rethink the Western Canon, highlighting Africa's influence on the Americas and the Caribbean's impact on the modern world.

More recently, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava named Edouard as the new Miami-Dade County artist-in-residence. For the artist, who fled the regime of “Papa Doc” Duvalier in Haiti as a teenager and subsequently resided in Puerto Rico, New York, Montreal, and Paris, this recognition arrives at an important time in this country’s history.

We’re honored to collaborate with Edouard. Self-taught and self-determined, his practice is firmly rooted in a legacy of liberation, imagination and world-building.
