that which frightens us

We invite you to take an intimate look at the artists of that which frightens us and their relationship with artmaking in Miami, with David Correa, Genesis Moreno, Richard Moreno, and Luna Palazzolo-Daboul, Commissioner Season Seven artist. All currently hold space at Tunnel Projects, the artist-run studios in Little Havana.

In a special collaboration aimed at sharing the stories and experiences of a group of artists in Miami, we witnessed the tensions that many face in sustaining their creative practices. “In pursuit of ‘the all-different’—lo de todo diferente, our absolute Other, that cannot be reasoned or reconciled, the infinite qualitative distinction—we turn to Vilém Flusser as a lens. He suggests that the ‘unarticulated’ could also mean ‘Nature, God, or the world’—in other words, that which perplexes us and therefore frightens us into thought, into the need to articulate, to philosophize.”

Film by Juan Luis Matos and Andres Gimenez. With gratitude to the artists, Tunnel, and New World School of the Arts. Participating artist David Correa and filmmaker Andres Gimenez are both alumni of YoungArts, the national organization that provides its artist community with a lifetime of resources for their pursuit of resilient and sustainable practices. Co-produced by Commissioner and Primary.
